Music has been the primary focus of my life since I was a young child. When I was in 2nd grade, my elementary school music teacher picked me out as having an exceptional talent. She motivated me to study music and is the reason that I am a professional musician today. Her inspiration has motivated me to pass on the gift of music to others.
For the past ten years, along with my professional singing career, I have been teaching private music lessons to students of all ages. My primary focus is vocal fundamentals, with an emphasis on breath, healthy technique, and projection inspired by my many years of singing professional opera all over the world. In addition, many of my students, including children as young as 5 and as old as 60, are musical novices, and I became an expert in being their first introduction to music, walking them through all genres of music and musical history, reading musical notation, and playing piano. I particularly love getting people excited about music, since it excites me so much!
My first instrument was the piano, and I believe it is the quintessential instrument to learn music on. Although I am a professional singer, I believe that the piano represents the foundation of music and I find it crucial for high-level musical understanding.
As a professional opera singer, I have years of experience performing all over the world, namely The Metropolitan Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Hong Kong Opera, Toronto Symphony, and Lyric Opera of Kansas City. I sang in operas and musical performances of all languages, including English, German, Italian, Latin, Spanish, Czech and Russian. These years of performance strengthened my ability to work and perform under pressure, to interact and make music with people of all ages and backgrounds, and to remember that music above all unites people.
